LICENCES
CBT must be
taken and completed by anyone who wants to ride a motorcycle on the road up to
the legal learner limit of 125cc ( 14.6 HP ).
Existing full car licence holders who passed their car test before February 1st
2001 and who wish to ride a moped ( 50cc ) do not need to take a CBT and can ride
without L-Plates as a full Moped licence holder.
If you pass the car test after February 1st 2001 and wish to ride a moped ( 50cc
) you will need to validate the licence by first taking and completing a CBT course
( This is now LAW ).
Providing the CBT certificate is issued you may now ride a moped as a full moped
licence holder and L-Plates are not required.
The CBT certificate will now be valid until your licence expires and will not
have to be re-taken until then.
All CBT certificates issued for use as provisional status have a life span of
2 years from the date of issue.
You must hold either a Full or Provisional UK licence with moped( Cat P )or motorcycle
entitlement ( Cat A ).

DIRECT ACCESS
You must be aged 21 or over wishing
to ride any size bike regardless of power output.
You must have either a full UK licence or provisional UK licence with Motorcycle entitlement (Cat A).
A Theory test is now compulsory for both Provisional licence holders and Full
car licence holders before being allowed to take the practical motorcycle test.
You must take and complete CBT before being allowed to ride on the road or take
a practical test.
This can be done in conjunction with your part 2 training when booking one of our intensive SUPERCOURSES.
The test must be taken on a bike with a power output of at least 46.6 Bhp ( 35 Kw ).

PASS: Remove L-Plates and ride any machine regardless of size and power.
FAIL: You must wait a minimum of 10 clear working days before re-testing.
Please Note: If the test is taken on an automatic motorcycle you will have a automatic licence ONLY.
RESTRICTED
A2 LICENCE 33 Bhp ( 25 Kw )
For riders aged between 17 and 20.
Or for riders over 21 wishing to ride a lower powered bike not exceeding 33
Bhp ( 25 Kw ).
You must first have either a full UK licence or provisional licence with motorcycle
entitlement ( Cat A ).
A Theory test is now compulsory for both Provisional licence holders and Full
car licence holders before being allowed to take the practical motorcycle test.
You must take and complete CBT before being allowed to ride on the road or take
a practical test.
This can be done in conjunction with your part 2 training when booking one of
our intensive SUPERCOURSES.
The training and test must be conducted on a big between 120cc-125ccc and capable
of at least 100 Kph. ( 63 mph ).

PASS: Remove L-plates and ride any size bike providing the engine power output
does not exceed 33 Bhp ( 25 Kw ) This restriction will last for 2 years. After
2 years the restriction will end and you may now ride any size bike regardless
of power output.
FAIL : You must wait a minimum of 10 clear working days before re-testing.
Please Note: If the test is taken on an automatic motorcycle then you will have
a automatic licence ONLY.
THEORY TEST
Compulsory for all licence holders who wish to take the practical test.
A Theory test is now mandatory for ALL licence holders, including those who
hold a full car licence.
The Theory test will need to have been passed before being allowed to take a
practical motorcycle test.
The theory test is a single
computer based test taken in two parts and will take approximately 1 hour to
complete.
Section one: 50 multiple choice questions designed to test your knowledge of
Highway Code and road rules and motorcycle theory. Pass mark is 43 out of a
possible 50. Section two: A hazard perception test with video clips being
shown from a driver’s viewpoint, you must spot and respond to any developing
hazards, the computer will time that response and mark accordingly. The pass
mark is 44 points from a possible 75.
Should you fail a theory test you
must wait 3 clear working days before re-testing.
Please ensure you arrange a theory test for motorcycles as a car theory test
will not be valid.
REMEMBER: A theory test certificate is only valid for 2 years.
LICENCES
AGE 16 Provisional Moped Licence ( Category P )
A provisional licence with moped entitlement is all that can be applied
for ( Category P ). This will allow you to ride a machine with the following
features and restrictions:
An engine size of no more than 50cc
A design speed of no more than 30mph.
CBT must be completed
You must display L-plates
You cannot carry passengers or use motorways
A CBT certificate obtained on a moped will be valid for a motorcycle once the
rider turns 17 and has the correct licence entitlement.
AGE 17 + Provisional Motorcycle Licence ( Category A )
A provisional motorcycle licence can be applied for which will allow you
to ride a machine with the following features and restrictions:
An engine size of no more than 125cc with a maximum power output on 14.6 Bhp.
( 11Kw ).
You must display L-plates
You cannot carry passengers or use motorways
CBT must be completed
New provisional licences with category A for motorcycles are now not subject
to a 2 year time limit.
The category A will now expire at the same time as the licence
Do not forget the life of a CBT certificate is only 2 years.
AGE 17 + Full Car Licence
If riding a moped the following features and restrictions apply:
Full car licence holders who passed their car test before February 1st 2001
do not need to take CBT to ride a moped ( 50cc ) on the road and are automatically
entitled to ride without L-Plates and carry passengers as full moped licence
holders.
It is strongley recommended that anyone without any moped/motorcycle experience
takes CBT training even if they are only riding a moped
Full car licence holders who pass their car test on or after February 1st 2001
will need to validate their licence first by taking and completing a CBT course.
( This is Law ).
CBT certificates issued for full car licence holders riding mopeds are valid
until the licence expires.
Do not forget the CBT certificate for category A motorcycle use is only valid
for 2 years.
You cannot use motorways
If riding a motorcycle the following features and restrictions apply:
An engine size of no more than 125cc with a maximum power output of 14.6 Bhp
( 11kw ).
You must display L-plates
You cannot carry passengers or use motorways
CBT must be completed
